Introduction: This study aimed, effect of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on soft tissue healing after mandibular third molar surgery. Materials & Methods: In this semi-blinded clinical trial study, 30 selected patients requiring surgical extraction of soft tissue impacted mandibular third molar participated from cases referred to the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Dentistry, Isfahan Azad University 2017. Patients divided into both test and control groups. PRP was placed in the extracted socket of the test group, whereas the control group had no PRP. Arzhangian standard kit utilized for preparation of PRP. The outcome variables in this study were pain, swelling, inter incisal mouth opening, wound dehiscence, dry socket, bleeding, and tissue color. The collected data analyzed using statistical tests followed independent T-test, Mann-Whitney, and fisher (p value < 0. 05). Results: The mean postoperative pain score (Visual Analog Scale) lowered for the test group after several wound dehiscence on the third and seventh days after surgery which was statistically significant (p value < 0. 001). Although the mean bleeding time on the third day after surgery decreased in the test group, this difference was not statistically significant (p value = 0. 59). There were no statistically significant between both groups for The dry socket incidence on the seventh day and the mean of inter incisal mouth opening in the third and seventh days after surgery as well. Conclusion: The usage of topical PRP has beneficial advantages on soft tissue healing after mandibular third molar surgery. Unlike the control group, The PRP group provided reduced pain and better soft tissue healing.

Abstract:

Introduction: Due to the high content of unsaturated fatty acids in soybean oil, the possibility of oxidation occurrence in this product is high and its application in the food industry is limited. Therefore, to increase oxidative stability and extend food applications of soybean oil, various modification processes have been investigated. Among modification processes, the hydrogenation process using the cold plasma technology has been considered to produce the partially hydrogenated oil with very low trans fatty acids. Materials and methods: this research evaluated the effect of surface dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma on physicochemical properties of soybean oil at 15 kV voltage and 50% hydrogen-50% nitrogen gas composition for 13-hour treatment. The samples were taken at the certain intervals to measure fatty acid composition, iodine value, refractive index, carotenoid content, melting point, peroxide value, tocopherol content, and sterol content during the treatment. Findings: After a 13-h treatment, the results showed an decrease in the content of unsaturated fatty acids, carotenoid content, refractive index, iodine value and total sterol content from 58. 62% to 40. 24%, from 26. 38 ppm to 6. 32 ppm, from 1. 4672 to 1. 4400, from 129. 64 to 100. 45 and from 2636. 51 ppm to 2315. 86 ppm and an increase in peroxide value from 2. 4 to 5. 8 meq O2/kg oil and melting point to 7°, C, respectively (p<, 0. 05). In addition, the content of trans fatty acids was detected in very small content (0. 85%). Conclusion: According to the obtained results, surface dielectric barrier discharge cold plasma treatment can be used as a new technology for the hydrogenation of oils along with bleaching oil.

Abstract:

In situ plasma analysis was performed during the single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) growth from nonmagnetic catalysts with plasma chemical vapor deposition (PCVD). The system based on optical emission spectroscopy (OES) was dedicated for in situ diagnostics of PCVD processes. The SWNTs growth was performed for a various H2 flow rates with 50W of an radio frequency (RF) power. Nonmagnetic metal particles were found to have catalytic activity for the growth of SWNTs under a specific plasma condition. The plasma analysis revealed that the intensities of Ha and CH radicals remarkably increased and decreased by increasing the H2 flow rate, respectively. Based on the comparison between the growth condition of SWNTs and results of plasma analysis, it was found that the intensity ratio of CH/ Ha shows fairly similar tendency to the yield of SWNTs as a function of H2 flow rate, i.e. SWNTs could be grown from nonmagnetic catalysts only when CH/ Ha is high. This indicates that the intensity ratio of CH/ Ha could be useful to optimize the growth condition of SWNTs with Au catalyst.

Abstract:

The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of using portulaca oleracea as a source of plant antioxidants for feeding fattening male lambs, on carcass traits, meat quality, and oxidative stability. Twenty-one male lambs with an average weight of 24±1.5 kg and 150±15 days old were fed with one of the experimental rations included a diet without portulaca oleracea as control, a diet containing 7.5%, and a diet containing 15% portulaca oleracea, for 84 days. The muscle (Longissimus dorsi) samplewas used to determine pH, chemical composition, colorimetric properties, and oxidative stability of meat. Meat lipid oxidation was determined after 1, 7, and 30 days of refrigerated storage using thiobarbituric acid (TBARS). The use of portulaca oleracea in diets improved meat color characteristics such as L, chroma, and Hue. The highest ash concentration and the lowest meat moisture were observed in the treatment of 15% portulaca oleracea (P<0.05). Meat pH was the lowest in the first hour after slaughter but did not differ at 24 h. Compared to the control, in both treatment groups feeding the lambs with portulaca significantly reduced the concentration of Malondialdehyde in the meat of the lambs and increased the meat oxidative stability (P<0.05). The results of this experiment showed that feeding portulaca oleracea by improving properties such as color and increasing the meat oxidative stability improves meat quality, which may have lead to an increase in its nutritional value in terms of human health.

Background and Objectives: The body composition and cardiorespiratory fitness are two important factors that reflect nutritional and physical activity status, respectively. An increase in the body fat stores can lead to systemic inflammation. The aim of this study was investigating the relationship of plasma IL-18 with cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, lipid profile and dietary composition. Materials and Methods: Ninety (37 women, 53 men) employees of Islamic Azad University, Ahvaz branch (BMI> 25 kg/m2) were enrolled in the present study, The bioelectrical impedance was used for the measurement of body composition. cardiorespiratory fitness was measured by Forestry step test, and the 24-hour recall questionnaires used for evaluation of dietary composition. The lipid profile, fasting sugar and plasma IL-18 were also evaluated. The significant level was determined as p<0. 05. Results: Plasma IL-18 was significantly and negatively related to VO2max (p≤ 0. 02). Also there was a positive significant relationship between IL-18 and BMI (p≤ 0. 001) and WHR (p≤ 0. 031). The dietary composition and lipid profile had no significant correlation with IL-18 and VO2max. The fat and total energy intake was negatively related to plasma HDL. WHR and BMI showed positive significant correlation with fat and total energy intake. Conclusion: In summary, high VO2max and low BMI and WHR are predictors of low IL-18 and systemic inflammation.

Abstract:

In this study, thin film nanofiltration membranes were modified by using Ar-Air plasma. The effect of plasma time, power and the composition of plasma gases on physico-chemical properties and separation performance of membranes were investigated. The results showed that the plasma treatment caused to increase in membrane surface hydrophilicity considerably. The surface modification of membranes by using plasma treatment led to enhancement of water flux through the membrane obviously. The separation efficiency of membranes due to surface modification was also changed broadly compared to unmodified membrane. The separation efficiency of modified membranes at 35 W and 180 s, 25 W and 120 s, and 15 W and 60 s plasma treatment measured ~30%, 76%-92% and 77%-89% respectively. The selectivity for un-modified membrane was also measured ~90%. Among all studied membranes, the modified membrane at 50-50 (v/v) Ar-Air plasma, 25 W and 120 s treatment with considerable enhancement of water flux compared to pristine membrane was selected as the optimum sample.
